This third-generation IBM Ultrastar 10 000 RPM drive offers capacities of up to 36.7 GB an industry-leading average seek time as fast as 4.9 ms giant magnetoresistive (GMR) advanced head technology and the latest technological advances such as shorter lighter actuators and updated mechanics and electronics. This new drive is performance-optimized with features that include a new technology Cache Optimizer which reduces access times to dramatically increases performance as well as buffer sizes of up to 8.0 MB which help provide outstanding performance especially for large data transfers and other sequential operations. Other features include advanced head load/unload technology and glass substrate disks to improve durability and robustness to prolong drive lifetime as well as IBM-exclusive reporting tools such as Predictive Failure Analysis (to alert users about potential drive problems) and Drive-TIP (to monitor drive temperatures and avoid malfunctions.
